What is the pen tool used for?
The Pen tool is used for drawing lines, curves, patterns.
How can you manipulate a path/line in Illustrator? Discuss the use of the white arrow tool. Pen+, pen-,and convert tool.
You can make a line, a curve. Using pen+ you can make a line wider and
using pen- you can compress it. The white arrow tool is to select
directly.
How can you utilize the layers palette in Illustrator?
The layers palette is very useful when creating an image with different
shapes and layers. You can move shapes to different layers to create a
better image.
How do you create a clipping mask in Adobe Illustrator?
You draw using the drawing tool. You use the layers palette, and select "create clipping mask" from the main menu.

Value
This is a design that utilizes the art element of value. Value is used by using different shades of color. This design goes from black, to dark gray, to light gray, to white. Value is very important, it shows depth and is used also to show where the light might be hitting the image.
Shape
This design is formed by many different shapes. There are any shapes combined to form an even bigger one dimensional shape. Shape is used in pretty much all designs, a shape is lines that come together to form an image.
This design is made up of no more than lines. It contains both thin lies and thick lines. These lines are all different sizes and go on different directions to show some sort of swirly design. Lines are used for mostly every design, they make up the shapes of design.
This design below, is an example of the last element of design, form. This is because the balls have a 3D feeling to them. They are more than just shapes, they look more realistic. Form is used as a way to make images look more realistic and make objects appear as if they are popping out of the paper or screen.

is very important in a design, because of the colors used, one is able
to interpret this scene takes place during the day and not at night.

Why/how can icons be used to communicate?
Icons are an effective way to attract users, they convey a message in a simple way, people find images easier to understand than a bunch of words.
What is the difference between copyright and public domain?
Copyright is a legal concept that grants authors and artists control over who uses their creations. On the other hand, public domain is the set of creative works that are not protected by copyright law
How can you avoid plagiarism in this class? In other classes?
By citing the sources, avoid using someone else's words and use our own.

What does it take to create good graphic design?
What is the difference between elements and principles?
Name the six (6) elements of design.
What can lines aid in, when alone or combined with other lines or shapes?
Which lines suggest a feeling of rest? Why do you think?
Vertical lines communicate a feeling of what? Why do you think?
What lines suggest a feeling of movement? Why do you think?
Soft, shallow curved lines suggest what? Why do you think?
These lines suggest confusion and turbulence? Why do you think?
What element defines a specific area of space? What is the difference between two dimensional shapes and three dimensional shapes?
Describe the difference between geometric shapes and organic shapes?
What are abstract shapes?
Which basic shape projects an attitude of honesty or equality?
What do triangles suggest?
Circles convey feelings of what?
Describe positive space and negative space? What is texture? Incorporating texture into a design can help do what? What is value?
What is another name for value? What can the element of color do when incorporated into a design?
- It takes knowing what the 6 elements are and knowing how to use them correctly.
What is the difference between elements and principles?
- Elements are the components of a design and principles let us know how to organize the elements.
Name the six (6) elements of design.
- Line shape, texture, value, form, and color.
What can lines aid in, when alone or combined with other lines or shapes?
- Lines create the shape of an image and message of a design.
Which lines suggest a feeling of rest? Why do you think?
- I think horizontal lines express a feeling of rest because it is continuously flat.
Vertical lines communicate a feeling of what? Why do you think?
- I think vertical lines communicate a feeling of length because vertical lines continuously go up/down.
What lines suggest a feeling of movement? Why do you think?
- I think diagonal/intersecting lines suggest movement because they point straight towards something constantly.
Soft, shallow curved lines suggest what? Why do you think?
- I think soft, shallow curved lines suggest comfort and relaxation because they are rounded and not pointed harshly.
These lines suggest confusion and turbulence? Why do you think?
- I think sharp edges suggest turbulence because they seem harmful.
What element defines a specific area of space? What is the difference between two dimensional shapes and three dimensional shapes?
- Shape defines a specific/certain area or region of space. The difference between two dimensional shapes and three dimensional shapes is that a two dimensional shape has width and height, meanwhile a three dimensional shape has depth, width, and height. 3D shapes appear to be popping out or coming out at us.
Describe the difference between geometric shapes and organic shapes?
- Geometric shapes are structures that are symmetrical shapes. Such as squares, triangles, etc. Organic shapes are found in nature or can be man made shapes. They are often irregular and fluid.
What are abstract shapes?
- Abstract shapes are over simplified versions of organic shapes. They are often irregular and fluid.
Which basic shape projects an attitude of honesty or equality?
- A basic shape that projects an attitude of honesty or equality would be a square or rectangle.
What do triangles suggest?
- A triangle suggests action. or movement.
Circles convey feelings of what?
- Circles convey a feeling of protection or infinity.
Describe positive space and negative space? What is texture? Incorporating texture into a design can help do what? What is value?
- Positive space is the area or region in which all of the elements you have added are in one's design. It may include text, graphics, photos, lines, and/or shapes. Negative space gives a space for the eye to rest or sense a feeling of calmness. It is the shapes around and between objects and/or elements. Texture can refer to the actual surface of a design.
What is another name for value? What can the element of color do when incorporated into a design?
- Another name for value is tone. The element of color can create images, attract attention, change/set moods, and identify objects when used in a design.
