What does it take to create good graphic design?
  • It takes knowing what the 6 elements are and knowing how to use them correctly.

What is the difference between elements and principles?
  • Elements are the components of a design and principles let us know how to organize the elements.

Name the six (6) elements of design.
  • Line shape, texture, value, form, and color.

What can lines aid in, when alone or combined with  other lines or shapes?
  • Lines create the shape of an image and message of a design.

Which lines suggest a feeling of rest? Why do you think?
  • I think horizontal lines express a feeling of rest because it is continuously flat.

Vertical lines communicate a feeling of what? Why do you think?
  • I think vertical lines communicate a feeling of length because  vertical lines continuously go up/down.

What lines suggest a feeling of movement? Why do you think?
  • I think diagonal/intersecting lines suggest movement because they point straight towards something constantly.

Soft, shallow curved lines suggest what? Why do you think?
  • I think soft, shallow curved lines suggest comfort and relaxation because they are rounded and not pointed harshly.

These lines suggest confusion and turbulence? Why do you think?
  • I think sharp edges suggest turbulence because they seem harmful.

What element defines a specific area of space? What is the difference between two dimensional shapes and three dimensional shapes?
  • Shape defines a specific/certain area or region of space. The difference between two dimensional shapes and three dimensional shapes is that a two dimensional shape has width and height, meanwhile a three dimensional shape has depth, width, and height. 3D shapes appear to be popping out or coming out at us.

Describe the difference between geometric shapes and organic shapes?
  • Geometric shapes are structures that are symmetrical shapes. Such as squares, triangles, etc. Organic shapes are found in nature or can be man made shapes. They are often irregular and fluid.

What are abstract shapes?
  • Abstract shapes are over simplified versions of organic shapes. They are often irregular and fluid.

Which basic shape projects an attitude of honesty or equality?
  • A basic shape that projects an attitude of honesty or equality would be a square or rectangle.

What do triangles suggest?
  • A triangle suggests action. or movement.

Circles convey feelings of what?
  • Circles convey a feeling of  protection or infinity.

Describe positive space and negative space? What is texture? Incorporating texture into a design can help do what? What is value?
  • Positive space is the area or region in which all of the elements you have added are in one's design. It may include text, graphics, photos, lines, and/or shapes. Negative space gives a space for the eye to rest or sense a feeling of calmness. It is the shapes around and between objects and/or elements. Texture can refer to the actual surface of a design.

What is another name for value? What can the element of color do when incorporated into a design?
  • Another name for value is tone. The element of color can create images, attract attention, change/set moods, and identify objects when used in a design.
